DIFFERENT SYSTEMS OF GOVERNMENT IN THE 20TH CENTURY






MONARCHY (Alfonso XIII 1886-1931):
 a form of government with a monarch at the head.



REPUBLIC (Alcalá Zamora 1931-1936 and Manuel Azaña 1936-1939):
 a state in which supreme power is held by the people and their elective representatives.


CIVIL WAR (1936-1939):
 a war between citizens of the same country.

DICTATORSHIP (Franco 1939-1975):
 government by a dictator.


Characteristics:

+ The constitution was abolished
+ All power was concentrated in one person
+ Political parties and labor unions were banned
+ The statutes of autonomy were revoked
+ Censorship

TRANSITION AND DEMOCRACY (1976-1981)
Juan Carlos I (1975-2014)
ADOLFO SUAREZ the first president of the Democracy. A DEMOCRACY means rule by the people. People take part in the decisions through elections.
